The Toronto Ultra have become the first team at Call of Duty League Champs to win a match in less than five games. The Ultra defeated the Boston Breach in round one of the loser’s bracket, eliminating Boston from the tournament. This was the Breach’s first ever Champs as an organization, and they didn’t perform how they hoped they would. While they certainly got a tough draw against the LA Thieves in the winner’s bracket yesterday, this match against Toronto was very winnable. Boston simply made too many mistakes in the respawn game modes to secure a victory over the Ultra.
Speaking of respawns; Toronto won their first opening Hardpoint in a match since Stage III. They had gone 0-10 in opening Hardpoints since that point. However, the map one Tuscan Hardpoint against Boston was all Ultra. Ben “Bance” Bance led Toronto in both kills and damage, finishing with 33 kills and over 3,800 damage en route to a huge Hardpoint win. On the Breach’s side, Reece “Vivid” Drost had an abysmal map, dropping a 0.68 KD. Vivid didn’t improve in the respawn game modes; a big reason for Boston’s inability to pick up as many wins.
The Breach’s only map win came on Desert Siege Search and Destroy. Dylan “Nero” Koch was flying all over the map for Boston, going off for nine kills and only two deaths. Toronto failed to win a round in S&D, but that didn’t matter much in the next two maps.
Toronto defeated Boston on both Berlin Control and Hardpoint. The Control was particularly intense, as both teams made critical plays and mistakes to get the map to a round five. The Ultra clutched up in round five, though, giving them a 2-1 edge in the series. Nero was a whopping -17 for Boston while Cameron “Cammy” McKilligan carried Toronto with 36 kills.

Boston’s season was concluded on Berlin Hardpoint. While they made a valiant comeback attempt, Cammy was too much for the Breach and the duo of Nero and Vivid didn’t come through. The SMG duo of Boston was a large reason why Ultra was able to take all three respawn game modes. The season ends on a sour note for the Boston Breach while Toronto Ultra keep on dancing in the loser’s bracket. They’ll face the loser of Atlanta FaZe vs. Seattle Surge.
