The looting in Diablo 4 is non-stop, and you will be finding a new gear piece or weapon in just about every fight you come across in Sanctuary. While this is a great thing for players looking to upgrade their arsenal or overall armor strength, it can be daunting looking at all of the extra gear you have in your inventory. In Diablo 4, you have a choice with all of this gear, and that’s to sell it for gold or salvage it for extra resources.
Though this sounds like a simple choice, many players are struggling to decide which route to take. After all, the enticing promise of gold is usually hard to give up, but players might need the extra resources they get from salvaging the unwanted gear in order to upgrade their equipped items later on. In this guide, we’ll go over the benefits of selling and salvaging gear in Diablo 4.
Sell or salvage gear in Diablo 4
When you are looking at whether or not to sell/salvage your gear, there are a couple of things you want to take stock of. First, you want to assess how much gold you currently have. If it’s not a high number, then you likely want to consider selling a solid chunk of your unwanted items. This will drastically increase the amount of gold you have and will allow you to upgrade your equipped gear or purchase items from vendors.
However, if you see any piece of gear with a hammer icon on it, do not sell that item. You want to salvage those items, as they will unlock a new appearance for that gear piece through the Transmog system.
Aside from those basic principles, you also want to look at what you’re going to salvage or sell. If it’s a legendary item, then you will likely gain a rare resource from salvaging it. This resource could be essential in upgrading future items, so salvaging legendary items is usually the best way to go. However, in regard to unique items, you might want to hang on to those, as they don’t come around too often. That piece of gear could be important in the future depending on how you decide to complete your build.
In the end, it comes down to what your character needs. If you need gold, then sell as many items as possible. However, if you need rare resources to upgrade an item or want to unlock a new gear appearance, then you want to salvage gear.
