After you make it through your encounter with The Nightmare and the witch’s apprentice in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, you’ll find yourself traveling the forest with Antea as a ghost. Eventually, you’ll come across a Haunting Case, called “The Flesh is Weak,” involving a man named Jacob and a missing person named Ben. Jacob says that Ben has been gone for a while, and it’s your job to figure out what happened to him in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden.
At the end of the quest, you’ll discover that Jacob actually murdered Ben a while ago. However, Jacob has no recollection of the event due to a variety of factors. Once you get Jacob to remember what he did and summon Ben to confront his old friend, you have a decision to make. You can either “Blame” Jacob, which kills him for his sin, or you can Ascend/Banish Ben, ending his time as a specter one way or the other.
Below, I’ll offer the outcome of either choice and which one is the best to make in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden.
What should you do with Jacob in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden?
The main reason why you have to make this choice is in regard to the Oath that you’ll take shortly after the completion of this quest. The Oath pledges Red to try and resurrect Antea, which requires human sacrifices, or ascending her, ending her time on earth.
In my opinion, you should decide Jacob’s fate based on what you want to do about Antea. If you want her and Red to stay together, then blame Jacob and kill him. However, if you want Antea to stop being a ghost, then either Ascend or Banish Ben. Both choices have the same outcome, but the Ascend option is a nicer way to go while Banishing a specter is considered harsh.
Here are the outcomes depending on what you decide:
- Blame Jacob: Jacob dies and you’re rewarded with one skill point and one skill point in the Evolution tree
- Ascend Ben: Ben is given a nice sendoff into the afterlife and you’re rewarded with one skill point
- Banish Ben: Ben is forcefully removed from the world and you’re rewarded with one skill point and one skill point in the Evolution tree
If you want the best bang for your buck, then either Blame Jacob or Banish Ben, as those options reward you with two skill points. However, if you want to take Ascend Oath, then you might want to consider choosing to Ascend Ben and not banish him.
