After rebuilding in the 2021 offseason, the Seattle Surge have finally found a roster that’s going to be around for the long haul. The organization announced earlier today that the starting roster from 2022 is returning to compete for the team in 2023. This was the expectation all along, as Seattle feels like they have the necessary tools in place to compete for championships no matter the game.
The Surge made two of the best free agency moves last season, signing rookies Sib and Pred. Those decisions, in conjunction with signing one of the smartest players in COD, Accuracy, and a selfless player in Mack, worked wonders for the team. Seattle went on to win Major III and placed third at CDL Champs, defeating OpTic Texas to secure that placement. Given the inconsistency of Vanguard, Seattle likely couldn’t showcase their full potential throughout last season. With a more stable game, though, the Surge could be one of the best teams in the entire league.

Bringing back Pred and Sib was always going to be a no-brainer for Seattle. Pred was the undisputed rookie of the year and could have been an MVP candidate as well. He singlehandedly won the Surge maps at times, proving he’s already one of the best SMGs in the CDL. As for Sib, he was also in the rookie of the year conversation, but didn’t put up as strong of numbers as Pred towards the end of the season. Still, Sib is among the best Flex players in the league heading into Modern Warfare 2.
Accuracy and Mack were also thought to be returning to Seattle, but there was more uncertainty around the pair. Some in the community thought Atlanta FaZe could target Accuracy in a trade to replace Arcitys. However, that never panned out, and Seattle retained one of the best in-game leaders in the CDL. Mack also showed great promise towards the end of the season after a rocky start to 2022. He should be in for a bounce-back season in Modern Warfare 2, considering how strong he was in Modern Warfare 2019.
The Seattle Surge are one of a few teams completely sticking together for the 2023 CDL season; time will tell if this was the right decision or not.
