Dot Esports reported today that Cloud9 star mid laner Luka “Perkz” Perković will soon be available on the buyout market according to sources close to the situation.

According to Dot’s report, Perkz informed both management and his teammates of his intent to leave the team because of family reasons ahead of Cloud9’s quarterfinals best-of-five against Gen.G on Oct. 25. He is allegedly interested in building a team this offseason and finding an organization willing to support his vision, according to Dot’s sources. Cloud9 declined to comment on the situation.

This potential buyout news comes less than one year after Cloud9 bought Perkz from G2 Esports in a multi-million dollar deal. According to Dot’s sources, Perkz is still contracted to C9 until the end of 2023 due to a three-year agreement that he signed in November 2020, which would give him an average salary of more than $2 million per year.

During his stint with Cloud9, Perkz made the finals of the first-ever League Championship Series Lock In tournament, won the Mid-Season Showdown and advanced from the group stage at the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational.

However, Cloud9’s run at the 2021 League of Legends World Championship was turbulent. Following a relatively seamless play-in stage, Cloud9 started the main event 0-3 before bouncing back in the second round-robin to become the only North American team to advance to the quarterfinals.

It’s not currently known whether or not Perkz will remain in NA, a region where he’s almost accomplished all there is to achieve, or return to his home of Europe, where he won multiple domestic titles with G2 Esports.

Pop culture consumer and League of Legends thought-haver. Working on becoming a weirder person.
