The Mystic Lake Center in Minnesota was absolutely rocking Friday evening when the home-team Minnesota ROKKR squared off against the reigning champs, OpTic Texas. It was the battle of the fan bases, with ROKKR owning the majority support in their home state. Of course, OpTic also had their ever-present Greenwall fans out in full force as well. While the ROKKR fans came out in greater numbers, their team couldn’t get it done, losing 1-3 against OpTic.
It was a longshot for Minnesota to take this match against Texas. While they were 1-0 against OpTic this year, that win took place before Texas started figuring things out and went on a 12-game win streak. Minnesota was now facing a much larger monster and they couldn’t withstand Texas’ proficiency in respawn game modes.
ROKKR bow out of Major II with loss to OpTic Texas
All in all, this was a highly entertaining and competitive match despite the final score. Texas took the first Hardpoint on Gavutu without much trouble, winning by over 120 points. Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro took over the map, going on constant flanks and adding to his already impressive highlight reel. Shotzzy’s dominant performance was a trend that continued throughout the rest of the series.

OpTic did their best to take the home crowd out of it, but the ROKKR got the fans back into it with an easy win on Desert Siege Search and Destroy. This is OpTic’s worst map in the game mode, so it wasn’t surprising to see Minnesota walk away with the win.
With the series tied up, it came down to an all-important Control on Tuscan. It was back and forth the whole way but thanks to Texas grabbing one tick on the B point in round three, they got the defending side in round five. This proved to be the difference, as the ROKKR couldn’t win an offensive round. The duo of Shotzzy and Seth “Scump” Abner was a consistent problem for Minnesota during this Control. It also didn’t help that ROKKR earned two Glide Bomb killstreaks during this map and couldn’t make any use out of them.

The fourth and final map of the series was Berlin Hardpoint, a map OpTic had not won the entire year. That changed at Major II, as they dominated Minnesota to close out the series. The ROKKR made far too many costly mistakes in Hardpoint, with their communication, in particular, raising some questions.
OpTic Texas moves on to face the LA Thieves for a top-eight placement while Minnesota has been eliminated at their own Major.
