ChronoVoid, the newest premium skin line coming to VALORANT, will feature skins for the Phantom, Vandal, Sheriff, Judge, and Melee, according to a press release. It is one of only a few skin lines that has options for both the Phantom and the Vandal.
ChronoVoid is a sci-fi themed skin line. The entire bundle will go for 8700 VP and release Sept. 21. The bundle also comes with an exclusive player card, spray, and gun buddy.
The skin line was announced in a short trailer.
Like many of the other premium skin lines, ChronoVoid skins will feature special effects. The melee — Terminus A Quo — will have a custom inspect animation, visual effects and audio. Likewise, the gun skins will have custom bullets when upgraded as well as audio and equip, reload, idle and inspect animations. They will also have three color variants: green, red, and black.
Creating ChronoVoid for VALORANT
According to the product description, ChronoVoid is a “sacred relic that many mistake for magic.” In reality, the design is ancient technology lost to time.
“The goal was to create a sci-fi weapon with a unique experience,” Stefan Jevremovic, art lead at Riot Games, said. “We wanted to show something that could be considered technologically advanced yet luxurious. Inspired by the story of Daedalus and the Minotaur’s Labyrinth, the idea was to convey a sense of mystery and power, and of holding a forbidden piece of treasure. We wanted to make a weapon that represented a relic of ancient powers.”
The team behind ChronoVoid also referenced themes of gold, power, and a direct inspiration from Asgard and Norse mythology as a starting point. From there, it developed more into a focus on luxury, design and high fashion.
“Looking at what we could do with animation and VFX, what we came out with was a moving visual piece that mesmerizes the eye but doesn’t distract,” Victoria Kim, a producer at Riot Games, said. “Like having a kinetic desk toy, it’s both pleasing and satisfying, yet is propelled by a force that is both controlled and yet one that cannot be controlled.”
