Magic: The Gathering (MTG) has released some incredible collaborative sets in the past. These include Fortnite, Street Fighter, and many more. This year, there’s a new collaboration on the block: MTG × Lord of the Rings set. And yes, you can obtain the One Ring. If you draw the One Ring, how does it work, and how can it help you win?

The One Ring

Like the books, the new MTG × Lord of the Rings set includes the One Ring. The One Ring is just that: there is only one of them in the whole world. Yes, Wizards of the Coast created an exclusive, one of a kind card that is the One Ring. You can only pull the One Ring from a Collector Boost pack. You can only find the One Ring in an English MTG pack.

It’s unknown where in the world this card could potentially end up. The card is a borderless, serialized card and contains the iconic black speech.

At the time of writing, it doesn’t appear that this card has been found. Update, the Ring has been found. Read all about it here [LINK TO NEW POST]. The One Ring is estimated to be worth millions of dollars. The Spain-based game store Gremio de Dregones has offered a €2 million bounty (~$2,172,396 USD) for anyone who finds the One Ring.

Some stores offered money to anyone who pulled the card after purchasing a pack in store. The Collectors Booster packs now seem to be sold out with packs on sale for $500 each.

Okay, I didn’t pull the One Ring. Does that mean I can’t use its mechanic?

Whilst the One Ring serialized card is a great concept, it’s not that useful as a trading card game. More people who need to have the card, otherwise one person in the world would be OP—I guess that aligns to the Lord of the Rings books!

Luckily, not only is the One Ring available on MTG: Arena, players can also pull the card from a pack. There are four different types of the One Ring cards. There is the serialized, one of one card and three others.

There’s a standard The One Ring artifact card, a special extended artwork card, and a completely borderless card. With four options on offer, you don’t need to worry if you don’t draw the one One Ring!

Now I have the card. How do I use the One Ring?

Using the One Ring is a new mechanic exclusive to this the MTG × Lord of the Rings set. It’s an artifact that that when cast, makes you completing indestructible. At least for one turn. You’ll need four mana, of any color to cast the card.

Once cast, the ring can’t be destroyed, not being by throwing it into a volcano! The caster loses life points for each counter on the card. You can tap the card to add counters to your card, which will in turn allow you to draw a card. You need to decide if losing life points is worth drawing cards. It does make you indestructible until your next turn so it’s a great end game card. Read more about the card on the MTG website.
