Magic: The Gathering (MTG) has released its latest set, Wilds of Eldraine. Players journey into fairy land with lots of twists on classic fairy tales. Like some fairy tales, these new cards might look small and innocent at first but they can become super powerful. With the right combinations you can buff your little 1/1 creatures into super powerful cards, capable of wiping out the competition. Here’s how.
How to buff your cards in Wilds of Eldraine
There are plenty of new cards in the new MTG card set are small creatures. Either 1/1, 0/2, 1/3, or even 2/2. These are relatively small creatures that can’t do a lot of damage on their own. Danitha Capashen, Paragon for example, is a 2/2 creature. Only costing 3 mana to summon, it can be called fairly early in the game.
However, while it’s not super powerful in attack or defense, it has first strike, vigilance, and likelink. This means it can kill a creature first, it doesn’t tap after attacking, and it can increase the controller’s life points. By adding some buffs to this card, it can become very powerful in just a few turns.
Equipping enchantments that give +1/+1 can quickly turn this card into a powerful ally. Adding Sage’s Reverie for example will provide +1/+1 as well as +1/+1 for every Aura equipped. This multiplies the effect of your enchantments. This is just one example of quickly buffing a low cost card. I recently played a game where one of the players had buff a 1/1 faerie into an 11/11 flyer in just a few turns.
When it comes to other deck colours there are plenty of options. Cloud of Faeries is a 1/1 Flying card that only costs 2 mana to play. One of those mana must be blue. Once summoned, you can get to powering up this card. By having Tegwyll, Duke of Splendor on the battlefield, all faeries you control automatically gain +1/+1.
Something like Sugar Rush can quickly give you a boost in the game, providing +3/0 for one turn. There are cards that can give you copies of cards and thus multiplying the effect.
