Six-star raids are back in Pokémon Go early in 2024 and with them comes another tough challenge for players to conquer. This time, we’re going back to the past with the return of Mega Latias and Latios.
These two Mega Pokémon have appeared before, but you’ve probably forgotten the best ways to go against them. Fortunately, the two have plenty of weaknesses and if you bring the right Pokémon you can quickly beat down these powerful foes.
Here’s everything you need to know so that you’re prepared for the battle.
Mega Latias and Mega Latios weaknesses in Pokémon Go
Both Mega Latios and Mega Latias have the same weaknesses as they’re both dual-type Dragon and Psychic Pokémon. This means that you can prepare a raid team to deal with both of them.
Having these two types, the pair will be weak against Ice, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Ghost, and Fariy-type attacks. That’s a lot of weaknesses, so your options are broad, but to help out we’ve put together a list of the six best Pokémon to bring into this raid battle. Please keep in mind, that while they are all in specific enhanced forms, the regular versions of these Pokémon can also work fairly well.
The best counters to Mega Latias and Mega Latias in Pokémon Go
Mega Rayquaza
Mega Rayquaza might be the strongest attacker in all of Pokémon Go so you shouldn’t be surprised to see it as one of our recommendations. This incredible Dragon and Flying-type Pokémon have lots of CP, high attack, and most importantly of all good speed.
The attacks you will want to bring into this fight are Dragon-type for that weakness boost, so we’d suggest Dragon Tail and Outrage if possible. This setup should be enough to do quite a lot of damage to Mega Latias or Latios.
Mega Gardevoir
While there aren’t many Fairy-type Pokémon, by far the strongest in Pokémon Go is Mega Gardevoir. This goliath has great CP and attack in its Mega form, and we’d suggest setting things up with a complete fairy offense if possible.
Charm would be the ideal fast attack while you can pick between Dazzling Gleam or Shadow Ball for charged options. That should be enough to prep Mega Gardevoir for combat.
Mega Gengar
If an enemy is weak against Ghost-type then you bet that Mega Gengar is going to be the best option. Yes, this incredibly popular Pokémon is a shoo-in against Mega Latios and Latias with great attack and a complete Ghost-type offense for maximum damage.
The perfect setup would be Lick as your fast attack while Shadow Ball deals charged offense.
Shadow Mamoswine
While Shadow Pokémon might not have the luster that Megas do, they are still powerful choices and Mamoswine is no exception. The strongest Ice-type Pokémon in Pokémon Go, if you have this available you should definitely bring it to the battle.
For the ideal moveset pairing Powder Snow with Avalanche should do the trick, but any Ice-type attacks are going to be decent in this battle.
Shadow Tyrantiar
While Tyrantiar does have a Mega version which is also incredibly strong, we didn’t want to fill this list with Megas so here’s Shadow Tyranitar. You’re still getting a Pokémon with high CP that can sustain in battle and slowly chip away with Dark-type offense.
Bite and Crunch would be the best way to head into this battle as these two Dark-type moves can do the work and wear down the opposing Mega Pokémon.
Shadow Chandelure
Another Shadow Pokémon that is great for this fight is Chandelure. The Ghost and Fire-type Pokémon has plenty of spooky abilities in its move pool so with the right setup you can have great success in this battle.
As you’d expect you’re going to want Ghost-type moves so Hex is the perfect fast attack while Shadow Ball does charged damage.
