Is Warzone 2 a separate download?
The simple answer to this question is that it depends. Players will have a different download experience depending on what console they are trying to play on and whether they have already downloaded Modern Warfare II.
The latest releases in the Call of Duty franchise are bundled together into one launcher. This follows the pattern set by the first editions of Modern Warfare and Warzone. For this reason, players who have purchased Modern Warfare II will automatically gain access to Warzone 2 via a free update. However, players who don’t have Modern Warfare II are still able to acquire Warzone 2 separately.
How to download on each console
While it is not necessary to buy Modern Warfare II in order to get Warzone 2, players should note that the process of obtaining it differs from console to console. Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S are fairly simple. For these consoles, Warzone 2 has its own download page in their respective game stores.
Conversely, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players will not be able to find a distinct page by searching for Warzone 2. Instead, they must go to the download page for Modern Warfare II. From there, players can navigate to the “extra content” menu, where they will find Warzone 2.
