The Barbarian is one of the oldest classes in the Diablo franchise and the ARPG genre as a whole. Known as a tank with a proclivity for close quarters combat, the Barbarian has been drastically changed in Diablo 4. Not only do players have access to new skills and the Expertise system, there is also a new weapon mechanic with the Barbarian.

Players can now wield up to four weapons, which are seen when you pull up the character panel. However, Diablo 4 does not make it clear as to how to switch between these weapons as a Barbarian.

If you decided to main this class at launch and want to know how to access your other weapons, you have come to the right place. I myself struggled with this for a chunk of time before figuring out exactly how it works. Learn from my mistakes and check out the guide below so you can run the Barbarian class the right way.

There are three classes of weapons for the Barbarian in Diablo 4:

  • Two-Handed Bludgeoning
  • Two-Handed Slashing
  • Single-Handed Dual Wielding

You can put weapons into any one of these slots, but you still need to know how to bring one of them out when you want it.

Luckily, Diablo 4 takes care of that manually. Essentially, whenever you want to perform a specific skill, the game will automatically switch your weapons depending on what weapon is required for that skill. If you go to the skill assignment page and hover over any skills, you can see the “Arsenal Selection” section appear at the bottom of the skill card.

Here, the game will tell you which weapon you will use when performing that skill. However, you can also manually choose what weapon to use in some cases. If you cycle through the Arsenal Selection, you can choose what weapon to use when you perform that skill. Although, not all skills will allow you to manually select a skill.

I found that sticking with the auto-select weapon was the best choice for my Barbarian build most of the time in Diablo 4. The auto-select weapon usually does the most damage because the specific skill you’re using is intended to use that kind of weapon. Still, the choice is yours in Diablo 4 now that you know how to switch your weapons.
