The three Unforgivable Curses traditionally earn witches and wizards a one-way ticket to Azkaban prison if they use any one of them. While that might be true in the real Wizarding World, Hogwarts Legacy has taken a different approach to the Unforgivable Curses. All three of them are available to learn for the player’s character in Hogwarts Legacy. Furthermore, players face no consequences for using any of them, as there is no morality system present in the game. This means players can fire off any curse and not have any fear of being shipped to Azkaban.

Here is how to acquire the Cruciatus Curse, which is known as the Crucio spell in Hogwarts Legacy. This is the curse that Neville Longbottom suffers trauma from, as his parents were tortured by it by Bellatrix Lestrange. Hogwarts Legacy has the Crucio spell inflicting damage onto enemies over a period of time. Players can keep using the spell to inflict more damage, but enemies can die from just one use of this spell.

To unlock the Cruciatus Curse, players need to complete various quests in Sebastian’s quest line. More specifically, players need to complete a quest called “In the Shadow of the Study.” Sebastian is a Slytherin student who you meet early on and has a quest line that unlocks all three of the Unforgivable Curses.

The “In the Shadow of the Study” side quest has players entering Slytherin’s Scriptorium with Sebastian and another character named Ominis Gaunt. The quest’s goal is to find out what happened Noctua Gaunt. Eventually, players will be required to use the Cruciatus Curse on a door to get it to open. Here, players can either have Sebastian teach them the spell or have him use it himself.

Regardless of your choice, you will then be able to use the Cruico spell at any time in Hogwarts Legacy. Keep following Sebastian’s quest line to unlock both the Avada Kedavra and Imperio spells.
