FaZe Clan lost to Andbox in the lower bracket of the second North American VALORANT Champions Tour 2-1 on Saturday and did not qualify for the Challengers league. FaZe Clan had two chances to advance through the VCT open qualifier system, but failed last week and this weekend.

The team will have to wait until the second stage of VCT begins in May for another chance at making an international tournament, or competing in the top league. In the first VCT open qualifier, FaZe lost to eventual VCT qualified team The Guard and then to Pioneers in the lower bracket. This time around, they were first defeated by Ghost Gaming and then Andbox.

The team will have to compete in third-party tournaments until after the first Masters event of the year concludes at the start of April. In 2021, FaZe was at one time a top team in North America. With the addition of four former Overwatch professional players, they made it as far as the finals of VCT Stage 1 Masters before losing to Sentinels. The team never competed internationally, but participated in almost every main Challengers event domestically and earned enough points to compete in the NA Last Chance Qualifier. They were one of the first teams to bow out of the event, however.

Going into the 2022 VCT season, FaZe Clan decided to change their roster and built around their main carry, Andrej “babybay” Francisty. The team now consists of former Immortals prospects Quan “dicey” Tran and Andrew “ShoT_UP” Orlowski and more young fraggers in Xavier “flyuh” Carlson and Christopher “LarryBanks” Doyi.

These open qualifier matches were also the first time fans had seen the new roster play, as FaZe did not compete in any official matches or third-party tournaments before their debut in the open qualifier.
