After one of the most popular players in the Call of Duty League, Anthony “Methodz” Zinni, retired after Major II, the Boston Breach had some work to do restructuring its roster. Methodz played an important role on the team, as he was the main AR, responsible for holding down choke points, securing spawns, and even grabbing some late objective time. Luckily, the Boston Breach had the perfect main AR in waiting on the Academy Team, and Ben “Beans” McMellon is the next man up.

Beans has long been a highly-touted prospect in the CDL’s Challengers division. He really began to get noticed last year in Vanguard, playing most of the season on Toronto Ultra’s EU Academy Team. The team won a few EU Challengers events and placed 5-6th at the CDL Challengers Finals. However, Toronto decided to dissolve its Academy Teams heading into Modern Warfare 2, leaving Beans without a home as an amateur player.
While he supposedly garnered some interest from professional teams, Beans eventually ended up on Boston Breach’s Academy Team. Thanks to Doug “Censor” Martin, this is easily the most high-profile Academy Team in CDL Challengers. And with the world’s eyes on Boston Academy in MW2, Beans has shined as a player.
He’s consistently been one of the top AR players in Challengers and was long thought to be an eventual and necessary call-up for Boston. With Methodz retiring, Beans was the logical choice to replace him.
Beans doesn’t have much experience in the CDL, but he has played one match for the Breach this season. At Major I, Joe “Owakening” Conley fell ill before the team’s match against the Las Vegas Legion. Beans, as the team’s substitute, stepped in to take over Owakening’s AR duties. While Boston lost that match, Beans performed admirably and showed he has what it takes to compete in the CDL.
Now, at least for Major III, he will get his chance to prove his worth on the revamped Boston roster.
