The next era of Assassin’s Creed has officially been announced.
Ubisoft revealed the name of the upcoming title: Mirage. In addition to the name, the developers also announced that more information would be revealed at Ubisoft Forward on Sept. 10 at 12 PM PT. The developers will likely go into more details surrounding the game, including the main protagonist, time period, setting, and more.
The name Mirage correctly matches up with previous leaks surrounding the next Assassin’s Creed. Those leaks also let fans in on where the game will possibly take place, who players will control, and other details regarding gameplay. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreirer corroborated those leaks, saying that Mirage will take place in Baghdad in the 800s. The main character will reportedly be Basim, who players saw briefly in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
A person familiar tells me parts of this new Assassin's Creed leak are true (such as the name and the other stuff Bloomberg has already reported: spring 23, Baghdad, back to AC basics) and other parts are not ("multiple cities to explore") https://t.co/qmM6UZtKnG

According to the leaks, this game takes place during Basim’s youth, right before he reached the Hidden Ones. As players will supposedly play as Basim, the ability to pick the main character’s gender in Assassin’s Creed will be absent in Mirage. This was a change that some fans enjoyed as it offered replayability options, but some fans wanted to return to simpler times in Assassin’s Creed.
Speaking of, the leaks also indicate that the franchise will be returning to its roots. This apparently means no more RPG-style of play (i.e. no character levels, skill points, etc.). Dialogue choices will also reportedly be absent. Finally, the leaker stated that Mirage will take strong influences from the first Assassin’s Creed title. Whether all of this comes to fruition has yet to be seen, but the leak at least had the name of the title correct.
There’s no telling what Ubisoft will reveal about Assassin’s Creed Mirage at the Ubisoft Forward on Sept. 10. However, fans can likely expect a release window at the very least. Leaks claim that Mirage will release in the spring of 2023, but no official timeframe has been given at this time.
