Over many generations there have been a lot of Fossil Pokémon added to the series, with most boasting their own unique type. That means if you’re searching out something specific then you’ll want to know what it is before digging for fossils.
Since Pokémon Gold and Silver arrived in 1999 the Steel type has been present in the games, but it’s not something that is typically associated with Fossil Pokémon. While these Pokémon all boast a Rock-typing, there are very few with Steel.
To help you out, here is everything you need to know so you can head out, find your Fossil, and get a fresh Steel-type Pokémon to add to your collection.
All Steel-type Fossil Pokémon
Shieldon is the only Steel-type Pokémon that you can get via Fossil in any of the Pokémon games.
Debuting in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, this unique creature boasts both the Rock-type that every Fossil Pokémon does, alongside Steel, which only it and the evolution Bastiodon have. Of course, it is possible that new Fossil Pokémon could be added with the Steel-typing, but as of now, it stands alone.
While players can’t themselves get one from a Fossil, the Mythic creature Genesect is said to have been resurrected from a Fossil by Team Plasma. With this being the case one could argue it is a Fossil Pokémon, but the fact that we can’t get it using that method ourselves, we’ve decided not to count it.
Overall if you want to get a Steel-type Fossil Pokémon then you’ll need to seek out the Armor Fossil as this is the only way to get Shieldon.
