If you’re in the market for a competitive first-person shooter, then Valorant and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) are both great choices. These games both offer a challenging and competitive tactical shooter experience.

Agents
These games are very similar, but there are several defining differences that can help you decide which one is for you. The biggest difference in terms of gameplay is the Agents in Valorant.
In CS:GO, every player can buy the same items and there are no abilities or different characters. In Valorant, each player chooses from a pool of Agents with different abilities they can purchase and use. Having different characters to play has its pros and cons. While it does add a lot of variety and unique gameplay elements, it also creates some balance issues.
Maps & Updates
Another big difference is the maps. CS:GO tends to have large spacious maps where Valorant tends to have smaller maps with more hallways and tight spaces. This is purely preference, as neither option is objectively better.
Lastly, you should consider whether updates are important to you. Valorant is still newer and gets updates every couple of weeks. CS:GO rarely receives any, but this does mean that it stays more consistent.
Making the choice
If you’re still on the fence, Valorant is much more friendly to newer players. CS:GO players rely heavily on private servers and retail servers tend to have extremely poor matchmaking, cheaters, and smurfs. Private servers are much better, but the players on them are generally quite experienced and some of them cost money to play on.
Ultimately, if you’re looking for a more balanced game with a dedicated fanbase, CS:GO is the way to go. If you want a fresh game that’s still in its early stages with a lot of room to grow, you should look into Valorant. It’s also worth noting that if you’re good at one of the two, your skills should translate nicely to the other if you ever want to make the swap.
