Canada’s first-ever esports stadium, The Gaming Stadium, has planned a 10-hour COVID-19 fundraiser for the upcoming weekend. The community-based COVID Care Collective Fundraiser will take place on Twitch, featuring five Canadian streamers raising money for COVID-19 victims.
COVID-19 quickly became a global pandemic, and countries around the globe experienced rising death tolls and negative economic impact. As a result of the disease, millions of people lost their homes due to job loss and illness. Since the entertainment industry shut its doors to prevent the virus’ spread, many esports companies held their events online.

In order to give back to impacted communities, gamers held fundraisers through streaming marathons. Although the spread of the disease had slowed down in the past month, positive cases are quickly rising again in the United States.
The Gaming Stadium recognized that many communities are struggling in their own way due to the pandemic. Because of this, its upcoming fundraiser aims to help Canadian families get back on their feet.
Measures taken to slow the spread of Coronavirus have resulted in a tidal wave of layoffs and as a result, countless Canadian families are struggling to make ends meet.

On July 4, The Gaming Stadium will host five streamers playing several games on a set schedule.

Other relief efforts in the esports community
As the pandemic continues on, other organizations have offered their help towards hospitals and COVID-19 victims. Just recently, Riot Games began a COVID-19 relief fundraiser ending on July 23. The fundraiser consists of players purchasing cosmetic skins as they donate 100% of the proceeds to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. This will provide support for frontline workers and struggling families that have been negatively impacted by the virus. Other companies, such as Secretlab and Twitch, have also donated money and materials to hospitals fighting COVID-19.
