Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek announced his move to the streaming platform Mixer, departing from Twitch. The first official stream occurs at 8 p.m. EST on Oct. 24. He joked in his video reveal that Shroud is “making moves.” This news continues to show the battle between streaming platforms for top talent. First, Mixer made headlines with bringing in Tyler “Ninja” Blevins. Then Twitch revealed that the top Fortnite YouTuber, Nicholas “Nick Eh 30” Amyoony, was coming to Twitch. As streaming continues to develop, the platforms will look to lock in top streamers to exclusive contracts. This works in favor of both the streamers and platforms, at least for now.

Shroud joins Mixer streaming platform
Shroud was previously a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive professional. He has also earned money playing multiple other titles such as Call of Duty, Rainbow Six Siege, and most recently Apex Legends. Shroud is well known for his amazing aiming abilities. Nowadays, the gamer focuses mostly on streaming. He occasionally competes in tournaments, but not at the same intensity. Following Ninja’s departure, Shroud was the second-largest streamer on Twitch behind Turner “Tfue” Tenney. He plays tons of different games and drew tens of thousands of viewers per stream on Twitch. Additionally, Shroud has over five million subscribers on YouTube. Needless to say, he created a large community and fanbase.
Mixer vs. Twitch
Mixer has been able to pull two of the top three streamers from Twitch within the span of a couple of months. Ninja joined Mixer back in August with a reportedly high-priced deal. Now, Shroud follows. Both streamers have massive fan bases and will continue to succeed regardless of the platform they choose. Ninja proved that after moving. Twitch should maybe be worried in the long term, but the truth is that Twitch is still a much larger platform than Mixer for now.
Still, Mixer continues to succeed. They have brought in the right people to support their platform. The timing of Shroud’s move could not have been timed any better. The streamer goes live tonight with early release gameplay of the new Call of Duty. The first stream should see huge viewer numbers and help draw more people to Mixer over Twitch.
