PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is getting ready for Season 6. The season brings a brand new map to the game via update 6.1. After a lot of teasing and rumors, the PUBG team confirmed that this fifth map, Karakin, is now available on the test server.

Karakin is a 2×2 map that brings more intensity to the game than ever before. It’s said to be an island off the North African coast, and its trademark is centered around it being small but fast and dangerous. This map is smaller than Miramar and roughly half the size of Erangel. As such, the player number for Karakin will be reduced to just 64, rather than the 100 that PUBG players are used to.
The map also features an exclusive “black zone”. The black zone is different from the regular red and blue zone, as buildings can be completely leveled by it. This forces players to not depend on the safety of a building. It also ensures that players don’t hide and wait until the game is almost over. Already, most PUBG players complain about how players camping in a safe zone makes the game less enjoyable, so this will hopefully serve to address that.
This new map features special breach points that players can destroy with sticky bombs. Plus, there are several surfaces that one could attach a sticky bomb to, not only walls. That means rooftops and the back of buildings could now serve as entry points for attacking squads. In addition to all of this, PUBG will add bullet penetration to weak walls in Karakin. Walls won’t necessarily protect you all the time anymore.
Unfortunately, the inclusion of the new Karakin map will see Vikendi excluded from public matches temporarily. The extra map could have caused longer queue times in-game, so it’s out with the old and in with the new! But the good news is that you can still visit Vikendi in custom matches.
The PUBG team stated that, for now, Vikendi is on vacation, and a revamp will come later.
