Manchester City’s Playstation player, Shaun ‘Shellzz’ Springette won his first-ever ePremier League in grand style. Shellzz defeated the Xbox champion, Olle “Ollelito” Arbin in a penalty shoot-out that ended 4-2.

The ePremier League offers UK-based players the opportunity to represent their favourite Premier League clubs in an online EA Sports FIFA tournament. The points gotten from the ePremier League are added to a player’s FIFA Global Series tally for the Season. Players get a chance to compete for spots at the FIFA 21 Global Series European Playoffs, a share of the €40,000 prize pool and the ePremier League trophy.

Shellzz’s journey to lift the ePremier League Trophy

In 2018, Shellzz signed for Manchester City Esports as they looked to get more involved in esports. Although Shellzz had participated in the previous ePremier League tournaments, he never made it to the Grand Final. After advancing to the online finals from the playoffs, Shellzz put on a dominant display throughout the competiton.

He finished the first day of the event with a 7-2 scoreline against Chelsea’s Kyle “SAF Hammond”. After this, the PS4 player replicated nearly the same scoreline in a dominant performance against Southampton. With these wins, Shellzz progressed to the ePremier League PS4 quarter-finals. He also won the quarter-finals against Leicester City on penalties and saw off Brighton’s Marc “Marley” Marley in the semi-finals.

Furthermore, the PS4 finals saw Shellzz in a two-legged match with Mitch “MHaywrxd”. Although Shellzz was the favorite going into this console final, Mitch’s defeat of England’s number one player, Thomas “Hashtag” Tom made the showdown even more exciting.

Shellzz had an incredible start to the PS4 final with his opponent gifting him a goal under 19 minutes. He finished the first leg with a 2-1 win, but had to mount a late come back in the second leg to ensure a spot in the Grand Final. Shellzz faced Leeds United’s Ollelito in the cross-console finale in a thriller game. With both players evenly matched, the game came down to penalties with Shellz clinching his and Man City’s first-ever ePremier League title.

The FIFA 21 tournaments have seen new winners and players emerge across all regions. With this win Shellz qualifies for Global Series European Playoffs this summer, takes home the ePremier League trophy and €20,000 first prize money.
