If you want to build the best tools and weapons in LEGO Fortnite, you’re going to need to get your hands on Knotroot to make Knotroot Rods. Thankfully, it’s not too difficult—as long as you know what you’re looking for.

LEGO Fortnite is crammed with possibilities, but the game doesn’t always explain what you need to do to progress. If you want to make powerful weapons and tools though, Knotroot is essential. Before you rush out looking for it though, there are some things you’ll need to do at your village first to ensure you can harvest it when you find it, including upgrading your Crafting Bench and making a new axe.

Table of Contents

How to upgrade your Crafting Bench

To start, your original Crafting Bench isn’t going to cut it. You need an uncommon Forest Axe to harvest Knotroot, but the base Bench won’t let you craft it without an upgrade.

To unlock more recipes, simply walk over to your Crafting Bench, and interact with it by pressing the button prompted by the game. At the top of the crafting menu, you’ll have the option to move to the “Bench Upgrade” screen. There, you can spend eight planks and three shells to level up your Bench and unlock new recipes.

How to craft an uncommon Forest Axe

Next, you’ll need to craft an uncommon Forest Axe, as the regular axe is simply not strong enough to harvest Knotroot.

Go back to the “Crafting Recipes” section of the Crafting Bench in LEGO Fortnite, and select the Forest Axe with a green hue around the image of the item.

To build it, you’ll need three bones and three Wooden Rods. Bones can be gathered by killing skeletons, while Wooden Rods can be created using wood in the Lumber Mill.

Where to find and harvest Knotroot Wood

Knotroot Wood can only be found in caves. Luckily, finding a cave isn’t too difficult, as they are marked on your map with an icon.

Simply bring up your map, look for your closest cave, and start running. When you make it there, interact with the cave to jump in.

Once you’re inside the cave, look around for Knotroot Wood. It can be seen growing out of rocks and walls and is usually twisted around and curling in on itself.

To harvest it, get your uncommon Forest Axe, and just start swinging. I found that it takes longer to break than normal wood, so don’t panic. I also suggest bringing a villager with you, as they will help you harvest and make the process a little quicker. A helper is also useful to fight any enemies like spiders or scorpions who might sneak up on you while you’re chopping.

Once you finally destroy it, Knotroot Wood will drop to the ground, which you can pick up and add to your inventory.

How to make Knotroot Rods in LEGO Fortnite

Now that you have your wood, you need to know how to make Knotroot Rods.

First, take your wood back to your village, and head to your Lumber Mill. Interact with it, and you’ll now see that you have the recipe to create Knotroot Rods. Select it and equip it as the current recipe, then place your wood into the box at the top left. The Lumber Mill will then turn it into Knotroot Rods. Simple!
