FIFA 21 comes out for next-gen consoles on Friday, December 4. If you already have it for the Playstation 4 or Xbox One X, however, you can get it for your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S for free and begin downloading it right now. If you’ve managed to get your hands on a next-gen console, here’s how you can get the upgraded edition of the game and begin playing it as soon as possible.

How to upgrade your copy of FIFA 21 to next-gen consoles

Regardless of whether you own a digital copy or a disc copy of FIFA 21, you will be able to upgrade it for your next-gen console through the Dual Entitlement feature. The process will be different if you own a digital copy, however.

How to upgrade a digital copy

If you bought a digital copy of FIFA 21, you’re in luck because you already own the next-gen version of the game. All you need to do is find the new version of the game in the PlayStation or Microsoft store and download it.

How to upgrade a physical copy

If you bought the physical copy, you need to make sure your next-gen console has a disc drive. With your disc in the console, head over to your store and find the upgrade. You will be able to download and play the next-gen version, but only if you have your PS4 or Xbox One copy in the disc drive.

Does progress carry over?

For FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) and Volta Football fans, you will be happy to know that your progress will indeed carry over to the next-gen version. All other data will not carry over, unfortunately. This does mean, however, that if you paid money for FUT cards, you will still have them.

You can begin enjoying the next-gen FIFA 21 experience now if you already own the game, or you can buy it in stores or online starting tomorrow.
