A New Challenger Appears

Just days before the first Rainbow Six Siege Major in Paris, another change has shaken up the European region. G2 Esports have signed the roster of PENTA Sports. Ever since the inaugural season of the Rainbow Six Pro League, PENTA Sports has remained a household name in the scene. The past three years have seen the team slowly rise to the top of the food chain, becoming arguably the best team in the game right now. They boast multiple LAN victories in season finals and major tournament wins. Now, the multi-nation roster joins the ranks of one of the European’s biggest organizations. This acquisition was revealed through the organization’s official website on August 10 as well as being announced on Twitter.

G2 Esports (formerly known as Gamers2) is known for their presence in League of Legends. After managing to qualify for the European LCS, the organization rebranded in late 2015 under the leadership of retired League player Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez Santiago.

Although the organization is no stranger to the first-person shooter games, this marks their first entry into the Rainbow Six Siege scene. The transfer was quite a shock to the community, only occurring a few days before one of the biggest tournaments of the year. Speculation started stirring after members of the PENTA Sports team began to follow G2 Esports on Twitter. What’s more, G2 Esports team owner ocelote tweeted a cryptic image of the number six:

An Ever-Changing Cast

With official confirmation of the transfer, the team has stated their gratitude for their past organization. Joining the G2 Army, the Rainbow Six Siege roster consists of:

Fabian “Fabian” Hällsten (Captain)

Niclas “Pengu” Mouritzen

Daniel “Goga” Mazorra Romero

Joonas “jNSzki” Savolainen

Juhani “Kantoraketti” Toivonen

Thomas “ShasOUdas” Lee (Coach)

Daniel “Ferral” Rotheram (Analyst)

The PENTA Sports legacy is one of perseverance and gradual growth. While the organization has been around ever since the start of the game’s lifespan, the only remaining player from the initial roster is Niclas “Pengu” Mouritzen. Their first two years would be filled with constant roster-mania. The team would shuffle numerous players trying to find the right pieces to complete the roster puzzle. This year would also see the “KS controversy,” where former German player Niklas “KS” Massierer would be kicked out of the team in a contentious fashion.

The Only Way Is Up

All throughout this storm of changes, the team remained a top-tier European talent. They would consistently win regional finals in a devastating fashion. The team’s lineup finally settled in late 2017, just in time for The Invitational 2018, Siege’s biggest annual championship. Going in as favourites, the European all-star squad would play one of the best Siege games against American rivals Evil Geniuses. The victory was hard fought, going the distance in a 3-2 fashion.

Despite falling short to Team Liquid during the Season 7 finals, G2 Esports remain a champion calibre team. Continuing their success into Season 8 Pro League, G2 Esports rank first in the European standings and impressively have not dropped a map. With the Six Major Paris this week, G2 Esports is looking to claim a win under their new organization. The team has a heavier weight on their shoulder this time around, but have historically proven they are capable of handling the heat.
