The Dallas Fuel are re-signing seven players to their roster for the second season of the Overwatch League. However, they are unfortunately dropping Sebastian “Chipshajen” Widlund from the team.

The organization would announce the news via Twitter this afternoon. Also, Dallas Fuel state that Christian “cocco” Jonsson will be transitioning to an Assistant Coach position. Dylan “aKm” Bignet, Hyeong “EFFECT” Hwang, Jonathan “HarryHook” Tejedor Rua, Ponghop “Mickie” Rattanasangchod, Min-seok “OGE” Son, Timo “Taimou” Kettunen and Benjamin “uNKOE” Chevasson are set to return for the 2019 Overwatch League season.

Good Luck Chipshajen!

Dallas is releasing long-time player Chipshajen, who has been with the team since the league’s inception. He was first on Team Envy, where he would help the team win Overwatch APEX Season One. Envy would continue on to win the 2016 Major League Gaming Vegas championship and the Overwatch Contenders Season One trophy. Dallas Fuel would then pick up the whole lineup for the inaugural Overwatch League season.

Mike Rufail, the owner of the Dallas Fuel, would praise Chipshajen, saying:

We are fortunate to have had a talented player and selfless teammate like Chips represent Team Envy and the Dallas Fuel these last three years. Without Chips, there would have been no Envy Overwatch, no APEX championship and no Contenders trophy. Chips was an integral part of our team and someone who created amazing memories for our organization and fans. We wish Chips the best wherever he chooses to play next.

A Dallas Fuel Shopping List

Now that they are solidifying their roster, what other pieces do the Dallas Fuel need for season two? I do think that they require some tinkering in order to replicate their stage four success. If we look at their current roster, there still are multiple holes that need filling. For example, the departure of Brandon “Seagull” Larned has Dallas searching for another off-tank and projectile DPS player. If we look at Dallas’ current collection of DPS players, there are too many that fill the hitscan role.

Off-Tanks and more

One man who comes to mind is Caleb “McGravy” McGarvey, who is currently playing on Dallas Fuel’s Contender team, Team Envy. He is a proven off-tank player who could fill in the shoes of Seagull quite well. For the projectile DPS role, there are multiple options at play. When the free agency period begins, several players will be available to help sort out some of the Fuel’s problems. Former Philadelphia Fusion DPS, George “ShaDowBurn” Gushcha, could be a wonderful addition to the roster come the second season. He could do quite well with a chance on a new team, with a starting role.

Another possible player to fill the projectile DPS role could be Liam “Mangachu” Campbell, who currently plays for the XL2 Academy. He has been playing for the New York Excelsior Contender team for the first season of the Overwatch League. However, with how talented the NYXL lineup is, he may look for greener pastures as a starter on a different team. Given the chance, he could blossom into a great player in his own right come season two!
