FaZe Clan has fought their way to a Grand Finals rematch with Sentinels after getting knocked into the lower bracket. Sentinels beat FaZe 2-0 in the upper bracket final yesterday, March 19, knocking the team into the lower bracket. The former Overwatch players beat Gen.G 2-0 to qualify for the Grand Finals. The best-of-five series will not only have the Masters’ crown on the line, but the chance at 100 points towards Champions qualification.
The Grand Finals matchup will be tomorrow, March 21.
FaZe versus Gen.G to reach Sentinels rematch
Gen.G had to make a losers bracket run of its own to make it to the finals matchup against FaZe. They were knocked out of the upper bracket on the first day of competition, and been fighting for their tournament life ever since. Gen.G ran through both XSET and 100 Thieves in the bracket 2-0 before it was in a rematch with Envy. The squad dispatched Envy 2-1 and went up against one of the tournament favorites in Faze.
FaZe took the match to Ascent in the first map. Andrej “babybay” Francisty and Corey “corey” Nigra both ran over Gen.G in the first map, dropping 21 and 20 kills respectively. The score line was relatively close at the halftime switch, 6-6. But once on attack FaZe took over to win 13-8.
On Gen.G’s map pick, Bind, the team switch around its composition. Danny “huynh” Huynh–who normally pilots Jett–was on Sage. The Canadian has played Jett on Bind before, in the team’s previous loss to Envy, but had not pulled her out in their rematch against Envy in the series before FaZe. Opting for a more utility-based strategy, Gen.G ultimately became overwhelmed by FaZe’s aggression. FaZe’s own Jett player, babybay, ultimately took over the game again, along with corey, and posted almost 20 kills again along with three three-kill rounds.
FaZe took the second map 13-9 and ended Gen.G’s loser bracket run to advance to the Masters Grand Finals against Sentinels.
