During this morning’s “Mr. Sakurai Presents” livestream, Masahiro Sakurai revealed that Pyra and Mythra will be available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate later today.

As always, the latest set of DLC characters will be accompanied by a stage from their home series. The new stage, Cloud Sea of Alrest, takes place on the back of a Titan named Gramps from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Other Titans from the original game will appear in the background of this stage as well.

In addition, Pyra and Mythra will bring music from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 into Smash Ultimate. There will be 16 new tracks, adding to the game’s three existing songs from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Players can choose to listen to these new tracks on Gaur Plains, a stage representing the original Xenoblade Chronicles.

Four new Mii Fighter costumes will also become available for purchase when Pyra and Mythra launch in Smash Ultimate. To commemorate the release of Monster Hunter Rise, three of these Mii costumes come from the Monster Hunter series: Hunter Equipment, Rathalos Equipment and Felyne. Additionally, Arthur from Ghosts ‘n Goblins, another Capcom series, will join as a Mii costume.

Pyra and Mythra’s gameplay in Smash Ultimate

The bulk of this morning’s presentation focused on the playstyles of Pyra and Mythra in Smash Ultimate. Pyra is the slower of the two, and she excels at dealing massive damage with single hits to secure kills. Conversely, Mythra is much faster, and her specialty is racking up damage with fast combos. Mythra also has a characteristic called Foresight that activates whenever she dodges an attack. Foresight reduces the damage she takes and creates a slight slow-down effect for her opponent. In this way, it is similar to Bayonetta’s Bat Within characteristic.

While Pyra and Mythra have similar normal attacks, most of their special attacks are completely different. Their shared Down-B, Swap, allows them to quickly switch between each other. Notably, Swap leaves them invincible for a brief period of time, making it useful for avoiding attacks.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players can test out how these characters work together (or whether they’re better off played individually) when Pyra and Mythra join the battle later today, March 4.
