As of Friday, May 14, SK Gaming has signed a Rocket League team. This comes five years after the organization had left the scene.

By signing Aether, SK Gaming has picked up a talented roster of players who were all replaced on their former teams. Previously, SK Gaming fielded a team before the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) even existed. Now, at the conclusion of RLCS Season X, and one day ahead of the Spring Major, they have acquired a team of experienced players.

SK Gaming signs a promising RLCS roster

The Aether roster came together in March of 2021, when each player found themselves off of their starting line-up. Maurice “Yukeo” Weihs had struggled to find his stride after being released from Dignitas in October of 2020. After stints on Fadeaway and the unsigned FlipFlop Tactics, he revived the Aether name from his team in 2017; this time with Damian “Tox” Schäfer and Dylan “eekso” Pickering, from Solary and Galaxy Racer, respectively.

The team quickly began to make waves and immediately qualified for all three RLCS X Spring Regionals. Spring Regional 1 proved that the team had promise when they finished in fifth to eighth place. More disappointingly, the second ended at place 17-20. However, during Spring Regional 3, it all started to click. Taking down some of the top teams in the region, they ended up placing second and securing a hefty amount of points — enough to qualify for the Spring Major.

As a new team, SK Gaming’s qualification to the Spring Major is an impressive feat. With the RLCS X soon coming to an end, it will be the roster’s final tournament this season. SK are not among the teams that qualified for the RLCS X Championships, the replacement event for the World Championships. They will have to wait for RLCS Season 11, or any event that may happen this summer, to show the longevity of the roster.

SK Gaming has wanted to get back into the Rocket League scene for a while. With Aether, they have shown that they trust the newly formed roster.

This weekend, May 16 – 17, SK Gaming will play in the RLCS X Spring Major. They have managed to avoid Group A, which is considered the group of death, but Group B is no laughing matter either.
