More news has been revealed today in the Overwatch League, but this one is a return. The Shanghai Dragons have signed hitscan DPS player Min-seong “diem” Bae, who they released earlier this off-season. After a short time on the free agency marketplace, it seems the Dragons wanted diem back in their lineup. After a questionable release earlier this off-season, getting that hitscan specialist back on their roster adds more depth to their top tier DPS pool.

Diem’s past
Before diem joined the Dragons the first time, he was a notable hitscan player in Chinese Contenders for team Lucky Future Zenith. During his time with them, he led the team to two championships. With his main heroes of McCree, Widowmaker, and Tracer, he showed plenty of skill. Plus, from his beginning in competitive Overwatch, he was close friends with MVP candidate Jae-hyeok “Carpe” Lee. Way before either player got to the league, they decided to choose their names after the Latin phrase “carpe diem,” which means “seize the day.”
However, for the second season, the Dragons built a new Korean roster, and added diem to their roster. For both seasons in the league, he wowed many fans with his Widowmaker play in particular, truly rivaling Carpe. However, even with the Dragons’ successes in both their previous seasons, the pandemic affected every team. Diem’s contract was too expensive to keep, so they released him. But, it seems that he did want to stay on their roster with this delayed re-signing.
The Dragons’ future
Much like the past two years, diem will help the Dragons’ DPS depth by a lot. With their current setup, diem is their hitscan specialist to partner up with whoever works best. Even with his faults last season, he still proved to be a very capable hitscan player. Now that he is rejoining the team and working to develop longer with them, it is just a matter of playtime. With the recent signings the Dragons have made, will he be happy on their roster if his time gets cut? I imagine that with him looking at the market and deciding to go back to Shanghai, he is happy trying to get the Dragons back to the top.
