Reports are coming in that Team Liquid has offered its League of Legends mid-laner, Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen, a $4.2 million contract for three years. Once Jensen signs on the dotted line, he will officially have the highest salary of any LCS player to date.

According to esports journalist Travis Gafford, his “sources” informed him that Jensen and Team Liquid came together to agree upon this rather large sum. This record-breaking deal surpasses Jeong “Impact” Eon-yeong’s $3.4 million three-year contract with Team Liquid as well as Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon’s $2.3 million contract with Dignitas for two years.

Jensen’s Team Liquid history

Such a huge offer isn’t entirely out of the blue for Jensen. He’s been an LCS champion twice, the 2019 LCS Summer Finals MVP, and a huge part of Team Liquid’s qualification for League of Legends Worlds. Team Liquid obviously didn’t advance to the playoffs for Worlds, but the team still had quite the victorious run. It defeated Suning Gaming, one of the Worlds finalists this year, and LEC Champions G2 Esports in the groups stages. Team Liquid obviously wants to keep him in the band to potentially advance further in the 2021 season.

The organization also wants to stay ahead of the chaos that is sure to come once free agency opens up in mid-November. It’s better to lock in a top asset now by throwing hoards of money at him, and then know what you’re up against come free agency.

While there is no official word yet about Jensen re-signing and sealing the deal, many expect Jensen to accept the offer with this amount of money on the table.

In other League of Legends news, don’t forget that the finals for the Worlds Championship are this Saturday, October 31. With the time difference from Shanghai, Riot has the finals scheduled to “approximately” start at 2:00 AM PT.
