The Call of Duty League is moving its esports scene to a new platform for the first time in history. Instead of playing on PlayStation or Xbox consoles, the CDL will be played on PC in 2021. However, instead of using a mouse and keyboard, professional players will use a league-approved controller. It’s unclear which controllers will be approved, but it’s likely that most devices used in the past will be available. While this seems like a great move for the CDL, there are some concerns that need to be addressed.
Call of Duty League transitions to PC for 2021
This was a move that has been rumored to be happening for some time. Back in 2018-2019, the infamous “CODBurner” speculated that Activision would move away from consoles soon. Well, that move has now to come fruition.
Announced very early last night, the CDL revealed that PC is the new norm for Call of Duty esports. Along with this, the CDL Challengers League will now feature cross-play, so players can use the platform of their choice.

Many professionals immediately praised the move. Console esports are a little dated, as the capabilities PC features are far and away more advanced than either PlayStation or Xbox. However, along with the praise, there were some concerns raised by professionals.

As with any PC title, the question of hacking is extremely prevalent with this move by the CDL. While LAN events won’t be in question, if they return, the online tournaments could very well be affected. Hacking is commonplace in the PC esports scene and there’s no doubt some up and coming players will try and use cheats to get ahead.
Activision needs to implement a solid Anti-Cheat system in Black Ops Cold War. If one isn’t present, hackers could run wild in this next season of the Call of Duty League.
However, all in all, this is a great and long-awaited move for Call of Duty esports. PC features better graphics, a wider Field of View, and many more capabilities. Also, professionals are no longer stuck with PlayStation controllers if they don’t want to use them.
