Pro CS:GO player Elias “Jamppi” Olkkonen filed a petition for the District Court of Eastern Uusimaa to temporarily lift his Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) ban so he could compete while his current lawsuit continues. The court denied his request on August 20.
Jamppi filed a lawsuit against Valve back in March for a permanent VAC ban that the CS:GO developer imposed upon him in 2015. He claims that the ban was unfair, and it has stunted any potential pro CS:GO career. According to Jamppi, he bought a copy of CS:GO for a friend and then later sold the account. He received the VAC ban shortly afterward. Jamppi further claims that he contacted Valve to plead his case, but the company refused to remove the permanent ban.
With the ban in place, Jamppi cannot participate in ESL, Dreamhack, BLAST, or Flashpoint events, much less any Valve-sponsored events. Because of his, he’s requesting €268,092 in potential missed earnings, since the ban prevented him to sign with OG Esports and compete in CS:GO majors.

While this lawsuit is going on in the background, Jamppi requested a temporary lift of the VAC ban so he could compete professionally in CS:GO. Valve quickly responded.
– Removing the VAC ban temporary while the lawsuit is handled would cause damage to Valve.
– If they remove the VAC ban temporary while the case is ongoing it would give players false signal that you can cheat in CSGO and VAC could be removed without reason.

The court has denied the temporary lift of the ban. Consequently, Jamppi will not be able to compete in CS:GO tournaments while this lawsuit continues. He could file an appeal, but he has to do so within seven days of the court’s ruling.
In the meantime, the court has returned to deciding if has the jurisdiction to preside over this case. While I am not brushed up on Finnish law, if it’s anything like United States court procedure, there are no rules for how quickly the court must hand down a decision in a civil matter.
