Earlier today, Activision held its semi-annual quarterly investors call and confirmed the existence of Call of Duty 2020. This is the first confirmation by any official sources regarding the title’s development and eventual release. While we didn’t receive any concrete details about the game, Activision did confirm that Treyarch and Raven Software (and not Sledgehammer Games) are developing the Black Ops-inspired title. The company also mentioned that Call of Duty: Warzone will continue in the new title, which is something we heard earlier in the day.

Activision speaks on Call of Duty 2020

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Activision chose not to reveal CoD 2020 at the normal date. Usually, Activision reveals every new title around May of the year it’s releasing. However, it’s August and we still hadn’t heard an acknowledgment of the game up until now.

The confirmation came on an investor call and some sources were able to quote Activision’s statements from the call. It was mainly Activision President Bob Kostich talking, so that’s who we’ll be quoting from this point on.

When talking about the new title for the first time, Kostich had this to say:

“The new Call of Duty premium title coming in Q4 will be launching into what we believe is the most engaged and highest player base ever… The game looks incredible right now.”

Call of Duty 2020 Black Ops

Kostich also added that more details will be released “fairly soon” in “ways they have never done before.” What Kostich means by that is the game will most likely be revealed through Call of Duty: Warzone. Activision raved about the battle royale and talked about how the game has changed its marketing strategy.

Starting with marketing, it’s [Warzone] definitely had an impact there and how we think about marketing in this new world. As you see from our results, right now we have a larger, more engaged, and more global audience than we’ve ever had at any point in time in our history.

The last bit of information that Activision talked about was how Warzone and COD 2020 will intertwine. Essentially, Warzone players won’t be out in the cold when the new game releases. There will be a fresh stream of content for Warzone players when the 2020 title releases.

Hopefully, we see a Call of Duty 2020 reveal shortly. Whenever that happens, Daily Esports will have the coverage.
