Swedish Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) giant Fnatic is now on top of HLTV’s CSGO world ranking. The team has jumped from #3 to #1, overtaking Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev and top-ranked Natus Vincere (Na’Vi), as well as Nicolai “device” Reedtz and Astralis. This is the first time in four years that Fnatic has reached the #1 spot on the updated-weekly CSGO world ranking by HLTV.

Fnatic back to glory days

Fnatic team members have had a streak of brilliance these past couple of weeks. Their most relevant achievement leading up to their placement is their phenomenal run at ESL Pro League Season 11, which they won against mousesports in a best-of-five thriller showdown. Right now, Fnatic is competing in the ESL One: Road to Rio event and most recently defeated Astralis 2-1. The Swedish team is due to start DreamHack Masters Spring 2020 – Europe on May 19. Both events just might solidify Jesper “JW” Wechsell and co.’s position on the elusive ranking.

Reaping benefits from restructuring

In August of 2019, Fnatic went through a roster makeover. Ever since then, the team has gradually built itself up from a disappointing early 2019. The team finished second at ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals against mousesports as well as third in this year’s IEM Katowice 2020 event. Reacquiring  Maikil “Golden” Selim has helped the team tremendously in this year’s events, as the team brought him back from Cloud9 in February. The team has definitely gotten a fresh start and a breath of fresh air ever since late 2019. Perhaps more CSGO teams should follow suit if stuck in a temporary slump.
