Spencer “BestNess” Garner won Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Singles at the Quarantine Series April Minor on April 19. It was the first minor tournament in the online Super Smash Bros. circuit hosted by Charles “Cr1TiKaL” White.
BestNess reached top 96 by defeating players like Christian “insomniac” C. and Joel “Beast” Veras. His run resumed with dominant 3-0 victories over Matt “Midnight” R. and Samuel “Dabuz” Buzby. By defeating Eric “ESAM” Lew 3-1, BestNess earned himself a spot in top 8 on winners side.
BestNess continued to look strong throughout top 8. With 3-1 victories against both Eric “Mr. E” Weber and Gavin “Tweek” Dempsey, BestNess cruised into winners side of Grands. After a dominant 3-0 over Edgar “Sparg0” Valdez, BestNess became the Quarantine Series April Minor champion.
Since the outset of the coronavirus pandemic, BestNess has consistently been one of the best-performing online Ultimate players. While this was his first online tournament victory, he has placed in the top 8 of many other events. Among them were the Soaked Series Invitational, Mazer Gaming Smash, and the Quarantine Series kick-off. At such events, BestNess has defeated some of Ultimate’s offline greats, including Leonardo “MkLeo” Lopez Perez and Tyler “Marss” Martins.

Fresh off his Ultimate Naifu Wars win, Sparg0 placed a similarly impressive 2nd at the Quarantine Series April Minor. Sparg0 defeated Alejandro “Regi Shikimi” Martinenz Nunez, Gabriel “Epic_Gabriel” Romero, “Sonix,” and Vincent “Vinny G” Ghiroli before losing to Tweek. Then in losers, he eliminated Brian “Benny&TheJets” Navarro and Kolawole “Kola” Aideyan. In addition, Sparg0 won his runback against Tweek in Losers Finals.
As this was his first online tournament since the beginning of the pandemic, it was unclear how Tweek would perform. However, Tweek proved to be similarly skilled online to how he is offline. He defeated Justice “JustTheIce” A., Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios, “Nabtah,” Darius “Laid” Hill, and Sparg0 en route to 3rd place.
Considering his multiple online tournament wins, 4th at the Quarantine Series April Minor was technically disappointing for Kola. Even so, his run was impressive. Kola defeated Luis “Lui$” Oceguera before dropping a set to ESAM. In losers, he immediately ran into and defeated MkLeo (who had lost to “rat” in the first round of pools). From there, Kola eliminated Dabuz, Vinny G, Brian “Cosmos” Kalu, and Mr. E.
