MAD Lions are the winners of the first iteration of Flashpoint in CSGO. The hard-fought victory over MiBR is the Danish side’s first triumph since V4 Future Sports Festival. MiBR were the favorites, but MAD Lions managed to pull off a historical comeback in the best-of-three series that went all the way.

MAD Lions strike back

The matchup kicked off on Mirage, pick of MAD Lions. The half saw MiBR start on the counter-terrorist side with a tough job to do. The half was rather awkward as MAD Lions only planted the bomb once, which got defused. A close 8-7 half led by MiBR turned into quite the nightmare for the Danish roster after side switch. The duo of Fernando “fer” Alvarenga and Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo pushed MiBR ahead to win their opponent’s map pick on t-side Mirage.

Inferno saw a mirrored Mirage. Much like Mirage, MAD Lions started off on ct-side but lost the half 8-7 due to highly effective bombsite entrances and defense by the Brazilian side. After stringing four rounds, MiBR’s ct-side success dissipated. This time, the Danish duo of Frederik “acoR” Gyldstrand and Lucas “Bubzkji” Andersen retaliated. MAD Lions strung five rounds in a row to gain momentum before closing things out at 16-13.

The decider map in the best-of-three Flashpoint 1 final was Train. The first half of the match saw MiBR go up a staggering 12-3 on their ct-side after excellent bombsite retakes by the Brazilians paired with overall defense. Just when things started to look bleak for the Danish, MAD Lions pulled off one of the most impressive comebacks in history. MiBR crumbled on their t-side as the Danes presented an immaculate ct-side on Train. A fantastic stride by Asger “AcilioN” Larsen and Rasmus “sjuush” Beck denied the easy win for the Brazilians, letting the Brazilian t-side only have one point. MiBR lost the decider 16-13 once more.

MAD Lions lifted (figuratively speaking, from home) the unique Red Chrome AK-47 trophy alongside a $500,000 prize after upsetting MiBR in the final 2-1.
