North American esports organization Dignitas has signed former Team SoloMid Academy substitute AD carry Johnson “Johnsun” Nguyen to its League of Legends roster. This is the second confirmed player for Dignitas after it extended the contract of top laner Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon for a reported $2.3 million.

Dignitas signs Johnsun

Johnsun joins Dignitas in the bot lane after previously joining Team SoloMid Academy as a trainee AD carry in January of 2019. He then moved to the main academy roster as a substitute player for the North American Academy Summer Split. Before his time at TSM, he also competed alongside former OpTic Gaming top laner Niship “Dhokla” Doshi in the 2017 Tyler1 Championship Series.

However, this signing seems to fit in with the rumors that Dignitas was having problems trying to sign players. This revolved around the fact that the team had used a large portion of its budget on Huni’s contract extension. While Johnsun has shown great skill in the North American region’s solo queue, he hasn’t had much experience in the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) scene. In addition, he didn’t play on the TSM Academy roster, since he was a substitute for Edward “Tactical” Ra.

With many teams already revealing their final rosters for the 2020 LCS season, Dignitas seems to have fallen behind. Not many players are left to be signed in the offseason, unless the organization plans to import players from other regions. After it merged with Clutch Gaming to acquire the LCS slot, it seemed like the 2020 season would be Dignitas’ year. But while Johnsun may be a great player, many in the community were expecting a different top laner name to be revealed.
