The Dallas Empire has formally dropped Charles “MuTeX” Saouma from its roster. MuTeX was set to be a Search and Destroy substitute/analyst for the team in the upcoming 2020 Call of Duty League. However, two days ago, MuTeX found himself in the middle of a controversy. After going live on Twitch accidentally, he directed insensitive slurs at one of his teammates. We will not directly reference slurs spoken, but we will leave a link to the Twitch VOD with a warning that it may be deemed offensive.
Dallas Empire drops MuTeX
If you watched the video in question, then you know how some people may find what MuTeX said offensive. There’s no doubt as to the severity of the slurs used by the Twitch streamer. However, there are always two sides to the story.
In an apology video, MuTeX acknowledges that he understands his career may be over due to his words. Though, he also claims the teammate he directed the slurs at is “like a brother” to him and didn’t wholeheartedly mean what he said.

While some may argue that phrases like the ones MuTeX used are spoken every day, other aspects come into play here. It is true, and unfortunate, that these types of slurs are used daily in everyday life. Of course, most aren’t punished as severely as MuTeX has been. However, as part of a multi-million dollar organization, image is a key element in every regard.
While most can get away with using slurs on a daily basis, MuTeX cannot. He wasn’t only a part of Empire; he’s a fairly big Twitch streamer with thousands of eyes on him. Sometimes, being in the public eye can be a negative thing, and this is one of those instances.
Since being dropped, MuTeX has announced a charity stream for autism awareness, happening Friday, Nov. 29. It seems he also has no ill will towards Dallas Empire for dropping him. Although, it’s safe to say that others in the community aren’t fully convinced of his good intentions.

Regardless, MuTeX will continue to stream Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Twitch. Whether or not he can win back some of his peers’ affections remains to be seen.
