German esports organization FC Schalke 04 Esports has announced the departure of AD carry Elias “Upset” Lipp from its League of Legends roster. The 19-year old first joined the organization, owned by football club Schlake 04, in January of 2017 while he was still considered a rookie.

FC Schalke 04 releases Upset

“Over the last years, Elias has developed enormously and his career is an excellent example of the sustainable work that Schalke 04 is doing in esports,” said said Tim Reichert, Chief Gaming Officer of FC Schalke 04, in a statement. “We helped Elias on his way from a talented newcomer to an established pro and helped him make progress – be it as a person or as a player. We as a club are particularly proud of that. We wish Elias all the best for his future.”

Upset started his competitive League of Legends career with European organization Mysterious Monkeys. He later competed under teams like mousesports, Nerv, Melty Esports Club, and Giants Gaming where the team placed 5 – 6th at Gyeonggi’s Intel Extreme Masters Season XI tournament. Upset joined FC Schalke 04 for the 2017 European Challengers Series (EU CS). After taking 1st in the 2017 Summer Split with great performance, the team was promoted into the European League of Legends Championship Series (EU LCS).

Losing to Splyce in Summer Split

The organization was also later approved for the current League of Legends European Championship (LEC) with a franchise model, which FC Schlake 04 purchased a slot in. Since then, the team placed 7th during the Spring Split and 3rd with the Summer Split. However, the team wasn’t able to secure a spot to the World Championships after a loss to Splyce in the LEC Regional Finals.

Upset helped the lineup with his high skill, but the team was still seen struggling against teams weaker than them. With a Player of the Split award from Riot Games, Upset will have many opportunities in both the European and North American regions. Who will FC Schalke 04 pick up to replace the empty role?
