With the ESL One New York 2019 event starting today, Evil Geniuses made a big announcement. After being absent from the Counter-Strike pro scene for 7 years, the team will be making a return. As announced today, Sept. 26, the NRG CSGO lineup will be playing under the Evil Geniuses banner going forward, starting at the ESL One New York 2019 event.

The history of Evil Geniuses in Counter-Strike

The Evil Geniuses organization first entered the competitive Counter-Strike 1.6 scene back in 2007. The team representing Evil Geniuses competed at various online tournaments throughout their time in the scene, winning several A-tier tournaments such as Beat It! 2010 and achieving first place at GameGune Mexico 2009.

The new EG CSGO roster

The team previously representing NRG Esports has been bought out. Besides the roster, the purchase also includes their spot in the ESL Pro League by the Evil Geniuses organization. The players representing the new EG team are as follows:

  • Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte
  • Cvetelin “CeRq” Dimitrov
  • Ethan “Ethan” Arnold
  • Tarik “Tarik” Celik
  • Peter “Stanislaw” Jarguz as in-game leader
  • Chet “ImAPet” Singh as the team’s coach

The team will play their first match at ESL One New York 2019 today at 8:35 p.m. CEST / 2:35 p.m. EST against the new Faze Clan lineup. The matches can be watched on the official ESL CSGO Twitch page. Evil Geniuses will be one of the 8 teams competing this week for their share of $200,000 at the event. The roster had an impressive record when they competed under the NRG Esports banner, so the community has high expectations of the team going into the event today.
