The Smash community recognized Desmond “Etika” Amofah during the 3rd Annual Smashies Awards Show at Super Smash Con 2019. Etika was a YouTuber and Smash Bros. community member who was found dead of an apparent suicide earlier this summer. Fans and friends of Etika took time to honor his memory during the Smashies on Aug 10.

Etika was posthumously awarded “Best Reaction” at the Smashies for his many over-the-top reactions to Super Smash Bros. reveal trailers. Among these were Mewtwo’s DLC reveal in Smash 4 and the first Super Smash Bros. Ultimate announcement trailer. Following a tribute video, some of Etika’s friends gave speeches and accepted the award on his behalf. These included Jason “ANTi” Bates, Evan “PB&J” Holland, Austin “Austy” Nolte, Stephenson “BAM” Bamidele, and D’Ron “D1” Maingrette.

Aside from the touching tribute to Etika, the Smashies featured several other awards. These honors helped to recognize significant moments and people in the Super Smash Bros. community. Players from Smash 64, Melee, and Ultimate all received awards. You can view the full list of accolades and winners below.
