Do you like red, white, and blue? Do you like building a literal wall that your opponents can’t get over? Well then Pramikon, Sky Rampart is the commander for you! It was just revealed in Magic: The Gathering Commander 2019 spoilers, so let’s talk about it!

Breakdown

Pramikon, Sky Rampart in MTG Commander 2019 spoilers

For 3 mana in the Jeskai colors, Pramikon, Sky Rampart is a 1/5 Wall with flying and defender. As it enters the battlefield, you get to choose left or right. Your opponents can only attack the opponent next to them in that direction. This effect won’t win you the game but does make politics extremely interesting. It can help to direct the table’s focus towards attacking a combo player, for example. If an opponent is playing a Voltron deck, suddenly they have no way to kill you without going through the people between you and them. You get to wall all the problem opponents off and force others to deal with them. Granted, this effect does little to affect a combo player, but it does prevent someone from winning the entire game in one combat step. I could see this being a great commander for a very controlling deck, or perhaps a chaos deck.

Verdict

Overall, this effect seems to stray more on the casual side of commander, and that’s alright. Casual effects that create rules on the game can be fun and help to keep things interesting. However, keep in mind this commander doesn’t lend itself to being a direct threat though. You’ll need to pack another way to win the game into your deck. Jeskai colors are full of powerful cards like that though, so that shouldn’t be a problem at all.
