Dan “SuPeRbOoMfAn” Hoyt won Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 64 Singles at Smash’N’Splash 5 on June 2. This tournament is the continuation of a streak of dominance for SuPeRbOoMfAn. He has not lost a tournament since Super Smash Con 2017, where he placed 4th.
SuPeRbOoMfAn cruised through pools without too much difficulty, dropping just one game to Jason “Darkhorse” Brody. From there, SuPeRbOoMfAn advanced to top 8 on winners side by beating Freddie “Combo Blaze” Guerrero and Alex “EG” Elden. EG also took a game off of SuPeRbOoMfAn.
In top 8, SuPeRbOoMfAn did not have any more last game scares, as the sets became best-of-five. He beat Josh Brody 3-1 in Winners Semis and Eduardo “tacos” Tovar 6-0 between both Winners Finals and Grand Finals. SuPeRbOoMfAn’s previous tournament victory came at GOML 2019, two weeks before Smash’N’Splash 5.
SuPeRbOoMfAn is the best Smash 64 player in North America by far, and he is among the best players in the world. He is also one of the most consistent. In his entire competitive career, SuPeRbOoMfAn has never placed outside of top 8 at a tournament. His worst placing ever was 5th at Kanto 2015, which was a single elimination tournament.

In pools, tacos secured wins over players like Dylan “dboss” Boss and Rafael “Madrush” Oceguera. Like SuPeRbOoMfAn, tacos only dropped one game in pools, to Sam “Velocity Jones” Macedonia. He advanced into top 16 on winners side after beating Ryan “Rocket” Brod.
In Winners Quarters, tacos beat Darkhorse 2-1. He advanced to Winners Finals by winning a 3-0 set over KeroKeroppi in Winners Semis. KeroKeroppi and tacos met again in Losers Finals. However, KeroKeroppi put up more of a fight the second time, taking tacos to game five. Nevertheless, tacos emerged victorious, ultimately finishing in 2nd place at Smash’N’Splash Smash 64 Singles.
