OverActive Media, the esports organization behind the Overwatch League’s Toronto Defiant team, announced today that Jason Toledano is now their new CFO.

“I am honoured to be joining Overactive Media, and thrilled to be working alongside such a talented team of professionals,” Toledano said. He also noted how the Overactive Media team is forging a path as a global leader in esports. He looks forward to helping the organization grow.

Toledano’s history

Toledano is an experienced leader in the financial industry. He boasts a portfolio focused on top and bottom line growth. In the past, he was the CFO of Weston Foods, a $2 billion food business. As a key player with the Loblaw Group as well, Toledano proved integral to the company’s $12 billion acquisition of Shoppers Drug Mart.

Toledano has also spent several years with the Bell Group of companies. This eventually helped him earn his spot as the CFO of Xwave, which is a division of Bell Aliant. At Bell Aliant, he helped optimize the company and integrated sourcing strategies which provided $50 million in annual cost savings.

His educational background consists of being a graduate of Western University’s Ivey School of Business. There, he earned an Executive MBA. His roster of achievements also includes an Honors degree from York University. Plus, he has a CPA/CA from the Chartered Accountants of Ontario.

Chris Overholt, the CEO and president of Overactive Media, is thrilled to welcome Toledano aboard his team. “As we continue to redefine the sports and entertainment sector with eight teams in five countries, we needed a leader with strong financial and operational focus,” Overholt said. He added that Toledano’s experience is exactly what the organization needs.

Just this year, OverActive Media added hospitality and entertainment veteran David Grutman to their investor group. They also brought on three-time Grammy Award Winner Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye to their organization’s roster.

The organization also owns Toronto Defiant, in addition to Toronto’s Call of Duty League franchise and a League of Legends European Championship series franchise. With its headquarters located in Toronto, OverActive Media continues to make its mark as an esports leader.
