The next update to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is coming within the next seven days, according to a post from SSBUBot. This will update the game to version 3.1.0.
It is currently unknown what changes players can expect from version 3.1.0 of Smash Ultimate. In fact, Nintendo has not officially announced this update at the time of this article’s writing. According to SSBUBot, Ultimate will show this news in-game beginning at 9:00 PM EDT on May 27.
This will be the first update to the game since version 3.0.1 was released on April 25. That update was a minor one, as it primarily addressed glitches related to the Final Smashes of Pit and Joker. Version 3.1.0 will likely be a more major update than that. As a result, Smash Ultimate players may expect more significant gameplay adjustments and balance changes.
The last major update to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was version 3.0.0 on April 17. This update primarily made way for Ultimate’s newest character, Joker, as well as the stage, spirits, and music associated with the Persona series. Version 3.0.0 also added the Stage Builder, a built-in video editor, and several Mii Fighter costumes, among other things.
As with other major updates, players may expect their saved replay data to disappear when they update to version 3.1.0. In order to preserve these replays, players must convert them to video within Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s vault.
What the fans are hoping for
With a new balance patch on the horizon, fans are no doubt wondering which characters will be buffed and which ones will be nerfed. Many players responded to the initial tweet by SSBUBot expressing hopes that Sheik will get some improvements in version 3.1.0. Sheik served as a Smash 4 top tier, but the transition from Smash 4 to Ultimate hit her hard. Even after a handful of buffs in version 3.0.0, Sheik players still think she is underwhelming in her capabilities.
Though she is far less common in competitive play now than she used to be, Sheik has seen some success in tournament play. Notably, James “VoiD” Makekau-Tyson used Sheik for some games at Goodwill of Orange County’s Charity Invitational Esports Fundraiser, a tournament where he finished in 1st place.
