While Fortnite Battle Royale runs on a free-to-play model, Epic Games monetizes the game through in-game cosmetics. These include character skins, items, emotes, and more available through the in-game Item Shop. However, because of accidental purchases and buyer remorse, players have been requesting an “undo purchase” function to help solve this problem.

At the moment, there is a system named “Return Request” that allows players three lifetime return requests. This feature allows players to refund any three cosmetic items they have purchased, but often this is not enough.

In March, a Reddit thread asking about how Japan’s version of Fortnite came with in-game transaction confirmation screens was posted.

Vice President of Engineering Daniel “DanDaDaDanDan” Vogel replied to this post explaining, “We neither want to add friction for players nor do we want to benefit from accidental purchases or players regretting a purchase.” He then goes on to mention how their “initial solution for this was to add a refund token system.”

Vogel then describes another addition that will be put in place, saying, “As an ongoing iteration, we are going to introduce an ‘undo’ button to the store page that allows you to easily refund without using up a token within a 5 minute time window, assuming you haven’t started a match since purchase.” Despite this post being heavily downvoted, it is still a great and long awaited addition to the game client.

In a new response to a Fortnite subreddit thread, Daniel Vogel confirmed this feature. He said, “Undo button is coming – last I heard plan was for it to ship in 9.10”. No official date has been associated with the 9.10 patch, but it should be next week.

This is only something to prevent accidental purchases. Buyer’s remorse will still only be covered by the three lifetime refund requests feature. What do you think about this new update?
