Dillon “Attach” Price’s heart was pounding as his teammates fell around him, one by one. The dreary London Docks only made the odds against him seem more dire. All the three men left on OpTic had to kill him in order to close out Round 11.

Attach, having just called in his artillery scorestreak, only had one option. He turned and ran through his own artillery in order to flank Damon “Karma” Barlow and Seth “Scump” Abner and bring the match down to one final gunfight.

“It was one of those things where you try something risky or you regret it later,” Attach said from his apartment in Dallas. “Once I made it through I knew I was good.”

Ian “Crimsix” Porter was OpTic’s last hope, but Attach knew he was on his way to a victory. They played “Ring Around the Rosie” until they met head on. Crimsix quickly fell to Attach’s SMG spray. His team, FaZe Clan, went on to win the Stage 1 playoff tournament in 2018.

That play has been cemented as one of the best in Call of Duty history, winning esports play of the year in 2018. A play of this caliber could only be overshadowed by Minnesota’s unbelievable comeback at the Stage 5 Major against Toronto.

Too many great comebacks to choose from

“I feel like this one is probably going to be number one,” Attach said in a post-game interview. “Because of the competition of this day and age.”

Both plays are another feather in Attach’s cap as he looks forward to another appearance at Call of Duty’s premiere championship tournament. He’s in Los Angeles to compete at the Call of Duty League Champs at the Galen Center at the University of Southern California.

“I want to cement my name within the new Call of Duty League champs list,” Attach said. “I want to see my teammates win, that’s my goal.”

Attach is heading into the final stretch of his first year with Minnesota Røkkr, playing with his teammates out of Dallas due to the pandemic forcing them to play online. Minnesota is sitting on a 20-17 record, going into the championship tournament as the sixth seed.

Outside of grinding Call of Duty for dozens of hours every week, Attach doesn’t play games much. He spends his time working out, reading, watching TV and partnering with clothing brands to launch his own merchandise.

“I didn’t help with the design for the first drop,” he said. “But we’re working together on the design for the next one.”

Attach is going back home for Champs

He grew up in Moorpark, about 50 miles up the coast of Los Angeles. He played a ton of sports growing up while following the Dodgers, Rams and Lakers. He played baseball constantly until he stumbled upon Call of Duty. His natural competitive nature translated well to the first person shooter as he played in GameBattle tournaments and in casual scrimmages with his friends.

“I changed my name so many times,” he said while laughing. He explained that he used his parents credit card to pay the $10 required to switch his in-game username on Xbox Live. “That was before I knew a lot about money.”

Attach’s name came to him as he was browsing the attachment menu in Modern Warfare 2. He liked the sound of “No Attachments” when he read it, so he adopted it as his tag. It wasn’t until he went pro that he realized the name was too long. He eventually shortened it to just Attach.

More than a decade later, Attach has been an anchor within his squad. He’s played as the roster has rotated between Lamar “Accuracy” Abedi, Eli “Standy” Bentz and Mike “MajorManiak” Szymaniak. The ever changing nature of the league hasn’t phased him whatsoever.

“I’m not intimidated by any of it,” he said of all the rookies that have replaced veterans in the 2021 season. “You see people retire when they don’t have passion and that’s not me.”

Attach’s focus is more on his health right now. He goes on runs, walks and lifts at the gym regularly. He knows the constant sitting required to be a top player has taken a toll on his body.

Keeping the body limber for Disneyland

“I don’t want any injuries from it when I’m older. You know, when you’re in the hardcore mode leaning forward,” he said, “it takes a toll on your back.”

Minnesota Røkkr have a steep hill to climb in order to take the 2021 Call of Duty League throne from all the teams ahead of them in the standings, but Attach is ready to make an attempt. He’s excited to head back to his home region and visit spots he hasn’t been to in a while.

“There’s a Taco Truck on Lincoln in Marina Del Rey,” he said of where he planned to eat. “That and a luxury vegan restaurant near Beverly Hills.”

It’ll be all business in the lead-up to the event where Attach will need to put all his focus on Call of Duty. He’s been training non-stop, but all bets are off once the event is over. He’ll need to do something to help him relax.

“I think I’ll head to Disneyland,” he said. “Check out the new Avengers campus.”
