Guild Esports have re-signed William “draken” Sundin to their VALORANT team, the organization announced on Saturday. The news comes two weeks after the player and the team parted ways.

The 25 year old played for Guild Esports from October 2020 until June 2021. After a fifth-sixth place finish at the VALORANT Champions Tour Stage 2 Challengers Finals and therefore failure to qualify for Masters 2: Reykjavík, the Swede left as the team prepared for VCT Stage 3.

Draken returns to Guild Esports

Draken and Guild separated on June 12, upon which the player announced he was taking a break throughout June and July to “spend time with friends & family to reload my batteries and be prepared for the next journey.”

His break has now been cut short thank to his former team. The player himself teased the news the day before, saying to “expect the unexpected.” The next day, Guild Esports revealed the news.

“Welcome, Draken!” the announcement reads, written by Grant Rousseau, the director of esports at Guild Esports. “After evaluating all options we’ve decided to re-sign Draken, as we believe this gives us the best opportunity for success at this VCT. At Guild, we’re constantly evaluating and assessing our roster to ensure the team has the best chance to bring home our next trophy.”

Rousseau further elaborated on the re-signing of Draken his personal Twitter, saying that after reviewing the changing meta of the game, sometimes it is best to make no change at all.

Guild Esports goes into VCT Stage 3 with the same roster as the previous stages. Although they were unable to make it to Reykjavík, Iceland for Masters 2 the team made top four in Stage 1 and top six in Stage 2. With four teams from EMEA headed to Masters 3: Berlin, Guild is a contender for the international tournament in Stage 3.
