Pokémon Sword and Shield VGC players throughout the world will compete in their respective region qualifiers for the Pokémon Players Cup IV beginning on June 19, 2021. Players will vie for spots in the region finals and, ultimately, the global finals in July.
But now, even more is at stake. Serebii has reported that the top placing players from each region will qualify for the recently announced Pokémon Global Exhibition. This international competition will pit some of the greatest Pokémon VGC players in the world against one another in October.
Currently, the number of players from each region to secure a spot at the Pokémon Global Exhibition is not confirmed. Assuming that all of the global finalists are eligible to compete in the Global Exhibition, 16 players would receive invitations through the Players Cup IV. This includes four players each from North America, Latin America, Europe and Oceania.
During the Players Cup IV region qualifiers, competitors will play nine Swiss rounds to determine each region’s top 16 players. These players will then compete in double-elimination brackets until only four from each region remain. Finally, the remaining global finalists will face each other in another double-elimination bracket. This will determine who will become the fourth Players Cup champion.

More about the Pokémon Global Exhibition
The Japanese Pokémon website announced the upcoming Global Exhibition on June 18. This invitational will include a currently unspecified number of players who rank highly in the masters division of the Pokémon Japan Championships 2021.
The Pokémon Japan Championships are currently scheduled to take place in person at the Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname, Japan from July 17-18. In addition to Pokémon Global Exhibition spots, players will compete for invitations to the 2022 Pokémon World Championships.
South Korea will also have representation at the Global Exhibition. However, unlike other regions, only one spot is currently available for a South Korean competitor. This spot will go to the winner of next month’s Pokémon Trainer Club 2021 competition.
